It's time to furl the sails on this campaign.

  • Digital rewards were delivered through BackerKit in April. If you have yet to claim those rewards, go to https://sundered-isles.backerkit.com and submit your email address to get a link to your pledge summary. From there, click on the "Get Your Digital Downloads" button. If you haven't downloaded the current version of the files (last updated in October), you can grab them in your DriveThruRPG library.
  • 99.6% of physical rewards have been shipped, on schedule with the original target of November (yay!). Some parcels to backers in Australia, New Zealand, and Asia are still en route, but should be arriving soon. There are a few outliers noted below.

Missing Your Rewards?

After auditing the fulfillment reports and comparing them with the data in BackerKit, I have about 25 shipments that were missed (mostly late pledges). Those have been added to the shipping queue. Another 22 backers have yet to report in to finalize their pledge, and I will pester them with another wave of reminder emails.

Shipping is about 85% complete, and we are still on track to complete all shipping this month. Check the status by region below.

Shipping Status

United States: Shipping is complete. If you haven't received your package, please contact [email protected].

Canada: Shipping is scheduled to start from the Canadian distribution center around the end of next week (November 15).

Australia / New Zealand / Asia: Shipping starts this Monday (November 11).

UK / EU / Rest of the World: Packing and shipping should be complete, but we've encountered occasional issues with backer data at this hub. If you don't have your parcel or a tracking email, please email me at [email protected]. I may need to resubmit your order to the warehouse.

Delivery Update - US/UK/EU Shipping Complete; Other Regions Soon

Hello, Ironsworn!

Happy to report that shipping for the US, UK, and EU are now (mostly) complete, with a few stragglers. If you live in one of these regions and haven't received your rewards or a shipping notice, please contact me at [email protected]. For other regions, including Canada, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, please stand by. Shipping should begin in the next week or two. See "Shipping Status" below for details.

I also appreciate everyone's patience and diligence with the sticky pages issue. Let's get into some more detail on the current status...

Shipping Status

United States: Shipping is complete. If you haven't received your package, please contact [email protected] and I'll check its status. 

Canada: You may already have a tracking email, but those emails were sent when the parcels were labeled at the US warehouse. Everything is moving to Canada in bulk, and shipping from the Canada warehouse should start in the next two weeks. I'll likely know more in my next update.

Australia / New Zealand / Asia: Things are moving a bit slow in the southern hemisphere, though still on track for early this month. It's been over a week since the second ship arrived in Sydney with the remaining items, and I'm waiting for word from the fulfillment house that everything is in place and ready to go. Hopefully some good news next week.

UK / EU / Rest of the World: Packing and shipping is complete, although parcels are likely still en route to many backers. If you don't have your parcel or a tracking email, contact [email protected], and I'll look it up.

Apologies to everyone who is still waiting. I know a staggered delivery is frustrating (it is for me, anyway). Almost there!

Delivery Update Plus Another Sticky Pages Follow-Up

Thank you for your patience with the sticky pages issue (as discussed in the previous backer update) and for the kind and supportive comments.

Let's dive into our current status.

Shipping Status By Region

United States: Shipping is complete. If you haven't received your package or a tracking email, don't worry! There are a couple of reasons why this may have happened. #1, your tracking email is in your spam folder, or #2, you did not finalize your pledge in the pledge manager. If you want me to look up your order, please contact [email protected] and I'll check its status.

Canada: My North American shipping partner is packing the parcels for transport to a Canadian fulfillment center. We are looking at a start of shipping around mid or late November. Apologies for the delay; there are extra logistical hoops to jump through.

Australia / New Zealand / Asia: The remaining cargo arrived in Sydney yesterday. Allowing for time to process through the port, I expect shipping will begin around the end of next week or the week after.

UK / EU / Rest of the World: Sundered Isles and the Starforged reprint have landed at the UK fulfillment center. You may receive a tracking email from Zatu Fulfillment as soon as today. However, keep in mind that these emails are sent when the label is generated at the warehouse, and there will usually be a bit of delay before the parcels are out the door and on the way. That said, I expect that packages will start arriving at UK mailboxes and doorsteps over the next week, and in EU countries in early November.

Another Sticky Pages Follow-Up

It seems the vast majority of backers can work through the sticky pages issue with a bit of patience and care when first handling the books. The most prevalent source of the problem is that the holes around the punches can be every-so-slightly ragged, which means the paper fibers are grabbing each other at the wire binding. Once those pages are separated, you should be free and clear to enjoy the books without issue.

I apologize again for the problem. The proper expectation with a book is that it "just works," which is a low bar that I failed to meet. If you encounter persistent issues or damage, please see "Reporting Issues" below.

Here are some helpful strategies from fellow backers:

"If you have sticky pages, open them as far as you can, slide your fingers in until the tips reach the binding, and gently run them up or down along the spine to separate the page from the next. Repeat for each sticky page."

"The stickiness was easily resolved by separating the pages going from the back of the book to the front. Front to back seemed to want to damage the pages."

"I found going from back-to front made it a bit easier to separate the pages (by running my fingers gently down the page, next to the binding). Part way through the book, I flipped a few pages to the 'front side' to give myself a bit more room, which made separating the rest without damage a bit easier."

A Follow-up on Sticky Pages

Hello, Ironsworn.

In Friday's update, I noted that I've had some reports of sticky pages in the Sundered Isles Guidebooks and Starforged Reference Guide.

At the time, this problem seemed relatively isolated and — in most cases — easily solved with a bit of care when first opening the books.

However, based on reports here and on the Ironsworn Discord server, the problem seems more prevalent than I initially suspected. I ran a poll on the Discord and it breaks down as follows.

  • No sticky pages - 10%
  • Minor sticky pages, easily resolved - 57%
  • Sticky pages with minor damage, not requiring replacement - 28%
  • Sticky pages with damage needing replacement - 6%

So, for North America backers, chances are that the books you will receive, or have already received, have this issue.

Firstly, I want to apologize. I don't know how I could have anticipated this issue, but this is my campaign and the buck stops here. If you are not happy, I will make it right. To that end, let's break it down via a FAQ.

The Sticky Pages FAQ

What's the cause of the problem?

I am not sure yet. I suspect it's an issue with drying/dehydration after printing. I have contacted the printer with some photos/videos, and they will evaluate. But it's the weekend.

I do not have any reports of this problem with the Starforged hardcover reprint. The asset cards are also fine.

Why wasn't the issue caught earlier?

There's a fairly intensive proofing process that happens with every project, starting with digital proofs, then untrimmed sheets, then bound copies off the press. At all stages, things looked good. The extra personal copies I received have no issues.

What if my books have sticky pages?

In most cases, the stickiness is not particularly stubborn. You can permanently fix the issue and avoid damage by carefully running your hand between any sticky pages along the spiral binding. Most customers report only a small number of affected pages.

Can I get a replacement?

If you believe any damage, minor or severe, warrants a replacement, please reach out to the fulfillment support channels as detailed below.

As noted in a previous backer update, it's not for me to decide if cosmetic damage is worthy of a replacement. If you're not happy, please request new copies or a partial refund (see below). I have instructed my fulfillment partner to be permissive in response to replacement requests.

As you might imagine based on the backer survey, it's possible (and even likely) that your replacement books will also have the issue. But, I hope you will be luckier with a very minor version of the problem, easily solved as detailed above.

Can I get a refund?

  • If you have minor/cosmetic damage and prefer a partial refund rather than another set of books, contact me at [email protected]
  • If your books are unusable and you would prefer a full refund over replacement, send an email to [email protected]

What about other regions?

At this stage, I'm unsure if this problem will appear at our other hubs (UK and Australia). Printing and drying are done in batches, so my hope is that the issue was present in some number of cartons and that the books I have in other hubs are unaffected.

I have asked my Australia fulfillment partner to pull some random samples, and will do the same for UK when it arrives.

If the problem does seem to be present with products at those hubs, I will consult with the printer and my fulfillment partners before we start shipping. Please stay tuned.

A Personal Note

Honestly, this situation leaves me heartbroken. It's not catastrophic, but it certainly feels that way. After pouring several years of time, money, and love into this project, it's a crushing disappointment to encounter this sort of issue. I am seriously reevaluating the future of physical products at Tomkin Press.

More importantly, I've delivered less than a 100% positive experience for those who supported this project, for which I apologize.
